League Review
It’s advantage Weston-super-Mare in the Pitching In Southern League Premier
Division South after Saturday’s results. The Seagulls beat Dorchester Town 3-1
at the Optima Stadium, whilst second-placed Truro City were beaten 3-2 at sixth-
placed Swindon Supermarine. And with third-placed Chesham United being
held to a 2-2 draw at The Meadow by struggling Harrow Borough, Weston’s lead
at the top is now five points.
A crowd of 826 saw Weston take an early 8th minute lead when recent signing Olly
Mehew played a one-two with Marlon Jackson before firing past Ryan Hall in the
Dorchester goal. The Seagulls doubled their lead in the 28th minute when a Jay
Murray cross was converted by Jackson from close range. Six minutes into the
second half, the Magpies got themselves back in the game when Jordan Ngalo’s
initial effort was parried by Weston `keeper Luke Purnell but the ball fell straight
to Harvey Bradbury who had the simple task of tapping home from close in. But
Scott Bartlett’s side secured the points in the 72nd minute when Scott Laird’s
powerful drive from 25 yards was pushed away by Hall, but the ball falls to Mehew
and he netted the rebound for his second of the afternoon.
At the Webbswood Stadium, Swindon Supermarine moved into sixth place after
a hard-earned 3-2 win against Truro in an excellent game. It was ‘Marine who
drew first blood after just 6 minutes when top scorer Harry Williams reacted first
to a blocked by Truro ‘keeper James Hamon to slot home from close range. The
hosts held that one-goal advantage at the break, but then came three goals in 7
minutes just after the hour-mark. Firstly, Supermarine doubled their lead when
James Harding sees a deflected shot beat Hamon. Five minutes later, Truro pulled
one back when Dan Sullivan crossed for Tyler Harvey who controlled and fired
home. Less than a minute later, Truro equalised when new signing Yassine En-
Neyah slotted home with a debut goal. Moments late Sullivan forced ‘Marine keeper
Josh Gould into a fine stop. And that proved vital as the home side made it 3-2 in
the 79th minute when Sam Turl’s header back across goal was met by Harding who
fired past Hamon.
A crowd of 509 saw Chesham held by a Harrow side who moved a point clear of
fourth-bottom Yate Town as a result. It was the visitors who took a 35th minute
lead when Anointed Chukwu collided by Chesham `keeper Sam Beasant but the
ball dribbled in off a post. Harrow held that advantage until the break, but 7
minutes after the restart, the Generals were level when, following good work by
Zak Joseph, Tobias Braney’s fierce effort gave Jacob Knightbridge no chance.
Harrow restored their lead on 66 minutes with a fine George Moore effort that saw
Beasant beaten at his far post. Shortly afterwards, Chesham had as golden
opportunity to equalise when Jordan Gibbons was brought down in the area.
However, Karl Oliyide’s resulting penalty was fired over the bar. Oliyide made
