                                  Ashton & Backwell Utd 3 – 2 Winscombe
With our last game only 4 weeks ago it felt like a
season restart and the boys did themselves proud
putting in a battling performance to secure the 3 priceless points in what so far,
has to be our most entertaining game of the season. The game didn’t start well
for us losing Sam Thomas on 8 minutes to a knee injury whilst he was on his
comeback from an operation on the same knee, we got our fingers crossed that
its not as bad as it looked and we wish a speedy recovery, massive loss for our
        club .
9 minutes in it was Miles Hardidge opening the scoring with a fantastic goal to
put the Stags 1 up, chipping the keeper form 40 yards. It could have been 2
shortly after when Will Solari missed his effort from 3 yards out and Thomas
Smart put his effort wide at the back post. With the impressive Sam Hemmings
testing the outstanding Winscombe keeper on several occasions.
The second half we started well forcing an early corner and with the Winscombe
defence failing to clear their lines Rikki Sargent turned the ball into the net for
2-0 for his 1st goal of the season.
Winscombe rallied and after Rikki Sargents clearance unfortunately rolled into
the path of the Winscombe forward who gratefully smashed the ball home 2-1.
68 minutes gone a great bit of play from Sam Hemmings feeding the ball to
Thomas Smart to make it 3-1 with a neat finish.
On 80 minutes Winscombe were awarded a penalty which was well taken for 3-2
        .
That led to a grandstand finish with Sam Hemmings coming off in the dying
embers, with all the subs on, we were down to ten men, defending solidly. But
still had 3 breakaway chances, Miles Hardidge with two opportunities to round
the keeper with the keeper coming out on top on both occasions.
Next up for us is Saltford home on new years eve, KO 2pm . up the stags
Enjoy your game, see you soon. Smarty
