The gap at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South is
now six points after leaders Farnborough were held to a draw while second-
placed Metropolitan Police won at Salisbury.
Spencer Day’s side shared a 0-0 stalemate at the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub by
Walton Casuals in front of a crowd of 411.
The Met added to Salisbury’s recent woes, as Steve Claridge’s side made it six
games without a win by losing 3-1 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium. A crowd of
452 saw Antonio Diaz give the home side a 17th-minute lead they could only hold
for two minutes as Oli Robinson pulled the Met level. Liam Ferdinand eventually put
the visitors in front after 69 minutes and victory was assured when Jasper Mather
added a third.
Third-placed Hayes & Yeading United won 4-0 at the Webbswood Stadium
against Swindon Supermarine. Hassan Jalloh gave the visitors an early 6th-
minute advantage which Kadell Daniel doubled in the 19th minute. Then, in first-
half injury-time, ‘Marine had George Dowling sent-off for a challenge deemed
reckless. And the ten-men conceded a third just seven minutes after the restart
through Francis Amartey and Moses Emmanuel rounded things off with a fourth for
Paul Hughes’ side on 69 minutes.
Taunton Town and Weston-super-Mare are now in the top five after they both
won, knocking out Gosport Borough, who lost at Poole Town, and Chesham
United, whose game was off at the Meadow.
At The Cygnet Health Care Stadium, a crowd of 633 saw Taunton beat bottom
wide Wimborne Town 3-1. Ollie Chamberlain gave the Peacocks a 13th-minute
lead that Gethyn Hill added to on the half-hour mark. Toby Holmes made it 3-0 in
the 56th minute, and although Harry Morgan immediately replied for the Magpies,
the home side comfortably saw out the rest of the game.
At the Optima Stadium, a crowd of 680 saw a routine 3-0 win for Weston against
third-from-bottom Kings Langley to take them to fifth. Nick McCootie broke the
deadlock to give the Seagulls the lead right on half-time and then immediately after
the restart, Dayle Grubb added a second. Keiran Thomas headed Weston’s third six
minutes from time.
At the Black Gold Stadium, Jamie Whisken gave Poole a 10th-minute lead which
Will Spetch doubled from the penalty spot after the referee had spotted a handball.
An own goal off keeper Mark Childs and defender Declan Rose presented Gosport
with a way back into the game after 68 minutes but the Dolphins held firm and
although are now ninth, are only two points behind Weston.
Yate Town are eighth and also just two points behind the play-off places after
beating Harrow Borough 2-1 at home. Luke Hopper gave the Bluebells a great
start with a penalty inside the opening five minutes. James Ewington eventually
pulled Harrow level with 10 minutes left of normal time. And that looked like
earning a point – until NINE minutes into stoppage time when Nick Rhodes
scrambled home Yate`s winner.
The bottom four all lost. As well as Wimborne and Kings Langley, Merthyr
Town lost to a 61st minute Kofi Halliday goal at Hartley Wintney, who are now
18th. And Dorchester Town are now fourth-from-bottom after losing 2-0 at
Holloways Park to Beaconsfield Town. Ryan De Havilland after 34 minutes and
Nathan Minhas just past the hour-mark were the Rams’ scorers.
