Smarty, THANK YOU GUYS.
Staplegrove 2 - AB Utd 3
Despite the close score line, we were comfortably the
dominant side. We started quickly, dominated
possession and on 15 mins Thomas Smart’s
speculative effort rattled the bar.
31 mins Callum Biggins brought the ball out from the
defence, fed Jake Flower who played the ball into
Thomas Smart who flicked the ball into Billy Devoy’s path who slotted home 0-1.
37 minutes Jordan Bishop on the right wing crossed in and Bill Devoy hit the post.
H-T
We started as we finished the first half dominating possession. On 52 mins some great
team play Bishop squaring to Thomas Smart to make it 0-2.
Then the host’s long ball forward caught our defence out and their classy forward made it
1-2.
From the restart a brilliant Jake Flower run set up Thomas smart to make it 1-3.
The hosts had a gift of a goal from a corner to set up a tense final 10 mins and then we
lost our keeper for a challenge on their advancing striker, and as the last man saw a red
card. Archie Ferris donned the gloves to see us home with a well-deserved win made
better as we had the bare 11. This moved us out of the bottom 3, rise 6 places to mid
table with games in hand.
AB Utd 1 – Middlezoy 3
Sometimes the result doesn’t tell the story of the game, our table topping visitors were
out played for most of the game.
The first 20 mins saw us hit the bar, Jordan Bishop saw his header cleared off the line and
Thomas Smart had a sitter well saved. Then out of nowhere on 30 mins our visitors
whipped a ball into our box, we cleared only for the ball to ricochet off a number of players
before ending up in our net 0-1.
We kept the tempo up asking more questions of the Middlezoy defence, then after a long
clearance from their box they were awarded a corner, good delivery, Red Clark our keeper
got a good solid punch on it only for it to land at a Middlezoy player who played the ball
back into the box but it ended up in our net 0-2.
HT
53 mins trying to clear our lines Tom Press was stretching for the ball, missed and also
made no contact with the forward but the referee awarded a penalty against the run of
play 0-3.
We stayed positive, kept the opposition pinned in, Sam Hemmings a constant threat in the
second half crossed low for Thomas Smart to get a goal back but the visitors dug in and
repelled a dominant Stags side.
We move on to next Saturday, away to Wrington. Enjoy your game, see you soon.
