Park’s Motor Group SWPL
The season resumed on Sunday following the break for the holiday period and Rangers picked
up the baton once again and preserved their two point lead at the top of SWPL 1 by winning 5-0
away to Hearts. Demi Vance gave them the lead after fourteen minutes, before Jane Ross added
a brace to see them three goals ahead at half time. Lizzie Arnot made it four after the break and
Chelsea Cornet rounded off the scoring with nine minutes remaining.
Glasgow City ensured that they stay just behind Rangers but needed a late strike in their
1-0 victory over Hamilton Academical. Jennifer Currie had a fine match in goal and pulled
off a string of saves as the Accies dug in and looked like picking up a valuable point but with three
minutes left, substitute Kerry Beattie marked her league debut for City by firing home the only
goal of the game.
There was also late drama at Hibernian where the home side shared a 1-1 draw with
third placed Celtic. After Emily Mutch had saved a first half penalty from Chloe Craig, Charlie
Wellings gave Celtic the lead just before half time but her side were to lose some ground on the
top two as Hibs grabbed a late equaliser through Ellis Notley.
Spartans meanwhile produced the comeback of the day in their 3-2 win away to
Aberdeen. Francesca Ogilvie gave Aberdeen the lead with a penalty just before the half hour
and she netted a second early in the second half. Caley Gibb pulled a goal back for Spartans on
the hour and Rebecca Galbraith levelled matters two minutes later, the fightback being finished
off when Galbraith completed her double, all three Spartans goals having been created by
substitute Alana Marshall.
Motherwell and Partick Thistle met for the second week running, this time in the
league, and once again they finished level at 2-2. Cara McBrearty opened the scoring for Partick
in the first half, with Amy Anderson ensuring the scores were level at the break. Kaela
McDonald-Nguah then put Motherwell ahead for the first time and this time it was Thistle who
were to hit back, Clare Docherty earning them a share of the spoils with twenty minutes
remaining.
Two matches were played in SWPL 2, with leaders Dundee Utd maintaining their nine
point advantage by winning 4-1 away to St Johnstone. Danni McGinley gave United a sixteenth
minute lead and after an own goal had
levelled the scores, Neve Guthrie put them SWPL 1 P W D L F A Pts GD
