United put out league leaders Arsenal

Manchester Utd are through to the semi finals of the FA
Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup after a 1-0 victory
away to five-time winners Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Millie Turner had earlier gone close to scoring for
Marc Skinner’s side when she headed against the bar from a
corner but the game remained goalless until seven minutes
from time, when a pinpoint cross from Katie Zelem was
headed in by Alessia Russo for the only goal of the game.
United held on under pressure in injury time for a result which takes them to within one
game of reaching a first ever major cup final whilst for Arsenal, their recent sticky patch of form
       continues.
United’s opponents in the semi finals will be holders Chelsea, who won 4-2 away to West
Ham Utd. The two sides met in the last four last season and it was Chelsea who took the lead
through Pernille Harder, midway through the first half. The Hammers rallied and Katerina
Svitkova brought them back on level terms but on the hour, the Blues were back in front with a
header from Erin Cuthbert. Harder then made it 3-1 three minutes later and the Danish
international, who was making her 50th appearance for the club, marked the occasion as she
completed her hat-trick. West Ham did not give up and Halle Houssein pulled a goal back late on
but it is Chelsea who marched into the last four and a step closer towards a hat-trick of victories
       in the competition.
Manchester City overcame an early scare to run out 3-1 winners over last season’s beaten
finalists, Bristol City. The Vixens started the game well and went in front when Alex Greenwood
diverted an Aggie Beever-Jones cross into her own net, but Khadija Shaw then scored twice to
send the Cityzens into the lead going into the half time interval. Vicky Losada sealed the win with
a third goal after the break to keep up her recent goalscoring run and end the visitors’ resistance.
Manchester City will be up against Tottenham Hotspur in the last four, Rehanne
Skinner’s side reaching that stage for the first time in the club’s history after beating Liverpool
       1-0.
Liverpool, who along with Bristol City were the last remaining Championship sides in the
competition, gave a good account of themselves on the night and a tightly contested game was
settled late on when Rachel Williams fired home from close range to secure a historic result for
       her club.
The draw for the semi finals was made on Thursday afternoon by former England
international Gemma Davison, who won the competition with Arsenal in 2012 and 2013.

       course.
