How teachers rate their access to computers and computer technology skills

•The 100% satisfaction rate for technical support showed a decline of 8% this year. This could be attributed to the Students Achieve network and server problems that the school experienced in the beginning of the school year which were largely be- yond the control of the technology team. It took the technology team a couple of weeks to get the network running smoothly.
•Teachers were asked to rate their access to computers and their computer technol- ogy skills twice in the survey. All four questions yielded a 100% satisfaction rate for 2004.
•The 100% satisfaction rate with computer technology skills presents a problem in the perception of required technology skills for the following reasons.
oThe use of software by majority of the teachers has been limited to the basic features of MS Word, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer.
oApplications which students have used in the Middle school i.e. Ms Excel, Geometer’s Sketchpad, Macromedia Suite and Imovie/Moviemaker are not used or expanded on in their high school lessons despite their accessibility in all computers.
•Hence, even if teachers are 100% satisfied with their computer technology skills, one cannot undermine the need for regular technology training for NDH staff if they are to meet the ICT learning needs of high school students.
