LeaderShift 2020
the world has changed and continues to change at an ever faster rate, many of our classrooms still look very much as they did the day I first entered as a student nearly 50 years ago.
The authors of this book believe we have talked about educational reform for long enough. LeaderShift 2020 is about moving beyond the rhetoric of reform to taking action. This book is about transformational leadership. It’s about leadership that’s driven by a clear vision for learning that best serves every student, in every classroom, of every school. It’s about developing a new pedagogical mindset—one that reflects our current reality; and it’s about the leadershift required to shape the mindset and practices of those who teach—from pre-service to inservice.
Above all, LeaderShift 2020 is about how we can engage all members and stakeholders in the educational community in our mission to move the vision of authentic-based teaching and learning into daily practice. Its ultimate purpose is to provide schools leadershift that will best serve all of our students in these modern times.
The modern world demands of education a much different student. The world of our students no longer requires just the “basic skills” of the Industrial Age. Like it or not, education needs a new set of basics: skills that will be necessary for a more creative, innovative, and global workforce; skills that will enable our students to be competitive and prosper in the new global economy. To achieve this, our students will need to acquire a unique skill set above and beyond that which we traditionally described as the “3Rs.” Specifically, they will require a skillset we describe as the “modern literacies.”
