1.2 Enhance and Improve Student Learning
The District is at various stages of using and integrating computers, computer software and elec- tronic communication technologies. Using a four stage assessment instrument with nine technol- ogy indicators, it was found that the average stage of technology development, for all District schools was at Stage Two (See Section 2: Current District Status, for additional information).
1.2.1 All schools will reach technology integration, development and implementation of Stage Three By June 2003
1.2.2 All schools will reach technology integration, development and implementation of Stage Four By June 2005
NOTE: Achieving Stage Four in this three year Technology Plan: 2000-2001
to 2002-2003 is not anticipated — the estimated target year is 2005-2006.

1.3 Student Computer Access and Use Policies
Appropriate student access to technology will be provided within the District. A minimum standard for computer access will be established for all District schools. In addition, a plan will be devel- oped to achieve the Alberta Learning students to computer ratio target of 5:1. In addition, ethical and appropriate student use policies for computer technology will be established.
1.3.1 Define and implement a minimum District standard for computer technology for all schools By Sept. 2001
1.3.2 Define the minimum Standard for computers to be counted to achieve the Alberta Learning Standard for the 5:1 computer hardware target. By Sept. 2000
1.3.3 All Schools will achieve the Alberta Schools & Achieve 5:1 By June 2005
One Learning computer hardware Dir. of Tech. ratio target of 5:1, or five students to each computer.
1.3.4 Provide support and leadership for information technology for student learning in locations such as:
• the library;
• learning assistance centres; • classrooms;
• research pods;
• science lab; and
• other locations.
Guidelines and recommendations will be developed in this area. By June 2001
1.3.5 Student access to computers for writing Provincial Achievement Tests and provincial Departmental Exams. By June 2001
1.3.6 Annually review and revise the District policy on the ethical and appropriate student use of computer technology.
