1.5 Distance, Virtual and/or Independent Learning
Distance learning using information technology is a learning environment that is a new educational initiative that functions independent of geography and traditional school sites. An initiative can offer learners — staff, parents, students, community members — exciting and new opportunities for self-paced and individualized learning. This type of an educational service is particularly useful to students/parents who prefer learning at home, want an alternative delivery choice, have a physi- cal or medical condition, or an athlete or performer with a demanding schedule.
1.5.1 Explore the feasibility of using electronic means of delivering distance and/or independent learning programs to students at the Elementary, and High school levels. By Mar. 2001
1.5.2 Explore and develop a District Distance and/or Independent Learning Model Proposal. By June 2001
1.6 Integrated Use of the Internet and Use Policies
Use of the Internet will be integrated within the curriculum and directed towards areas such as: communications, research, information retrieval and problem solving.
1.6.1 Develop strategies and actions for student use of the Internet within the curriculum. By Dec. 2000
1.6.2 Develop and/or acquire curriculum support materials and training for student use of the Internet and the World Wide Web. By Dec. 2000

to enhance and improve instruction. In addition, all teachers and staff will have ac- cess to a wide variety of information and communication technology inservice,
training and support programs as appropriate to enable them to integrate informa- tion and communication technology
into daily learning, curriculum integration and administrative activities.
