District Values and Beliefs
Highly
Productive
“We are living in a new economy,” says the U.S. Department of Labor. In the Digital Age, success is “powered by technology, fueled by informa- tion, and driven by knowledge.” Though not yet a high-stakes focus of schools, these skills often determine whether a person succeeds or fails in today’s workforce.
Prioritizing, Planning, and Managing for Re- sults: Do students organize to efficiently achieve the goals of specific projects or problems?
Effective Use of Real-World Tools: Can stu- dents use real-world tools (i.e. the hardware, software, networking, and peripheral devices used by Information Technology (IT) workers to accomplish 21st century work) to communicate, collaborate, solve problems, and accomplish tasks?
Ability to Produce Relevant, High-Quality Products: Are students adept at developing in- tellectual, informational, or material products that serve authentic purposes and occur as a result of their using real-world tools to solve or communicate about real- world problems? These products include persuasive communica- tions in any media (print, video, the Web, verbal presentation), synthesis of resources into more useable forms (databases, graphics, simula- tions), or refinement of questions that build upon what is known to advance one’s own and others’ understanding.
- Metiri NCREL 21st Skills
Catholic/Christian values are fundamental in preparing our stu- dents’ minds, bodies and spirits, and Christ should be reflected in everything that we do.
Each student is a unique gift from God to be valued and respected.
All children can learn and experience success; they have the right to access high quality educational programming that takes into ac- count different learning styles and ability levels.
All students, parents and staff have gifts and talents that must be recognized, respected and developed.
Learning is a visionary and proactive process that requires a col- laborative effort by students, staff, families and the community.
Learning occurs best in a safe, orderly and caring environment where expectations are clear and students believe they can and will succeed.
The Catholic school is an extension of the Catholic Christian com- munity and is a vital link between church and home.

District Primary Mandate
Our primary purpose, like Christ, is to serve... our students, our par- ents and our community. Within this context Lakeland Catholic will:
• Enhance our Catholic identity by developing and maintaining strong links among the parish, school and home;
• Develop students as critical thinkers and problem solvers, equipped with the skills to be responsible, productive and
ethical citizens focused on serving God and the community;
• Provide students with a wide range of high quality educational pro- grams and services that educate the whole child – spiritually, intellectu- ally, physically, culturally and emotionally;
• Nurture self-esteem, success and wellness in a safe, caring and ena- bling learning environment that affirms the dignity of staff and stu- dents; and
• Develop a learning climate that supports excellence, continuous im- provement and life-long learning. To deliver our mandate, the Lakeland Catholic Board of Education will maintain a business planning posture that is educationally sound, future oriented, responsive to stakehold- ers, and allows meaningful opportunities for input. The planning proc- ess, like that of visioning, is not static. Strategies for success will be based on experience, opportunities for collaboration and informed ad- aptations to evolving issues in education.
