Lower order thinking skills (LOTS) mainly emphasizes on the need for the
individual to recall and somewhat emphasize on the understanding at a very
preliminary stage.
Moving away from Rote Learning to Conceptual understanding in a step-by-
step manner would lead to progressing towards the Higher Order Thinking
Skills (HOTS).
Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) emphasizes on the thinking ability /
capability of the students who are able to think and apply the knowledge and
skills they have learned to new contexts, which would represent the thinking
in line with analy cal, logical, reasoning and problem-solving abili es.
As we move higher in the thinking skills, the thinking abili es and
competencies have to develop in order to reap the benefits of the preliminary
Learning process; herein the focus would aptly be on Analyzing , Evalua ng
and Crea ng .
Analyzing would need the student to compare and contrast, differen ate and
dis nguish the acquired learning.
Evalua ng would need the student to select, support, defend / jus fy a stand
which would allow the deep awareness of the par cular topic / subject ma er
Crea ng is the ul mate level the student can reach wherein they would
correlate the inter-disciplinary concepts and be able to Create, Design,
Develop new point of views, opinions and ideas.
We have a empted to focus on all the 6 levels of Learning in a step-by-step
manner to provide a helpful and encouraging environment for the children
who are the future genera on and the future of this country.
