What is Commitment for Life?
Commitment for Life is the URC’s world justice
programme. Our goal is to enable you, the
local congregation, to make global justice a
core foundation of your mission. We offer
resources to facilitate prayer, advocacy, and effective action
for the most vulnerable people in the world.
Commitment for Life is a way in which local congregations
are enabled to participate in actions for justice around the
world. Commitment for Life belongs to every congregation.
Many choose to support a region in the world through prayer,
learning, advocacy, and action for justice.
The three regions are:
Bangladesh
Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory
Zimbabwe
It is more than this:
Commitment for life is partnered with
Christian Aid -
Global justice Now
and Fairtrade
Commitment for Life is not a new endeavour. The
Commitment for Life program was renamed in 1991 from its
previous name, "The 1% Appeal," and was relaunched in its
current format in 1992. The program, which promotes global
solidarity and justice, has since seen several updates, including
a re-launch in 1996 with a new structure and partner
countries.
