Tips for exploring our Fabulous Purbeck
This time of year is fantastic, isn’t it? It’s getting lighter, we have some
great misty mornings and nature starts to do reproductive stuff.
I was down at Warbarrow in late January and saw frog spawn in a
puddle – which is definitely the earliest I have seen spawn in Dorset
(my garden pond had spawn on 10 Feb). Photo of the puddle attached
th
as a record shot!
When you are out and about it’s worth thinking about how your
behaviour can impact wildlife that is trying to breed. Keep dogs on
leads on the heaths and meadows, where ground nesting birds are
easily flushed from nests – and stick to paths where you can.
We’ve added some colour to the heaths this spring, working with local
schools and youth groups, to act as a reminder… look out for the Arty
Dogs around Middlebere, Slepe, Hartland, Stoborough and Arne
heaths.
