All stand. At the door of the church, the priest sprinkles the coffin with
Holy Water, as a reminder of baptism, in which Christ promises eternal
life to his people. He says:

Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.
Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.

In the waters of baptism Kath died with Christ and rose to new life with
him. May she now share with him eternal glory.

The First Reading
A reading from the first letter of St John

Think of the love that the Father has lavished on us,
by letting us be called God’s children;
and that is what we are.
Because the world refused to acknowledge him,
therefore it does not acknowledge us.
My dear people, we are already the children of God
but what we are to be in the future has not yet been revealed;
all we know is, that when it is revealed
we shall be like him
because we shall see him as he really is.

At the end:
Reader: The word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm
Response : I will walk in the presence of the Lord, in the land of the
living. (repeat)

How gracious is the Lord, and just;
our God has compassion.
The Lord protects the simple hearts;
I was helpless so he saved me. Response
