From the Leprosy Mission
“For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord, “plans to prosper
you and not to harm you, plans to
give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Dear Friend,
I see this verse every day in our office when I go to make a cup of tea.
Someone has written it on the whiteboard in the kitchen. It’s a wonderful
reminder of God’s faithfulness and love. I hope that it brings you as much
comfort as it does me!
Travel nearly 5,000 miles east from our kitchen to northern Bangladesh,
and you will find a place that radiates God’s hope. Nilphamari Hospital is
an oasis for people affected by leprosy. Many cannot get healthcare
anywhere else, and it’s the only hospital in the country that provides
specialist reconstructive surgery for leprosy patients. Here, despair is
transformed into new promises and possibilities every day.
Patients here have been through so much heartbreak and hardship.
Many have faced devastating stigma and rejection. Others find them-
selves disabled by leprosy and unable to provide for their families. Pray
that all those who come to Nilphamari will feel surrounded by God’s
peace straight away. Pray too that they will get the best possible care
and comfort, and find a home away from home.
Reconstructive surgery restores movement to hands and feet disabled by
leprosy. Any surgery is a nerve-wracking prospect, especially when so
much depends on it. Please lift all those who will need operations this
year up to the Lord. Pray that He will bless them with complete
healing. Pray too that God would give wisdom and guide the hands of the
surgeons as they carry out these intricate procedures.
A team of physiotherapists, nurses and technicians care for patients as
they recover after surgery. Their God-inspired words and actions bring
healing and hope into broken hearts. Please ask that the Lord will inspire
them every day as they follow His example to serve others. May they
show Jesus’ love with every appointment, every kind word, and every
arm around a shoulder.
