THEISM Valerie Dennis

T’other day I came across a second definition of a theist; a second definition because the first
and oldest (17C) is the one we understand as someone who believes in the existence of God. In
                th
the 19 century a poet, one Percy Bysshe Shelley, who was addicted to more than the odd
cuppa, styled himself as a theist thereby creating the second definition. However, the Oxford
English Dictionary concludes with a warning that theism is a ‘morbid condition caused by
excessive tea-drinking’. I’ve been testing this hypothesis yet awhile but have thus far failed to
prove it, so will continue to enjoy the calm which both forms of Theism bring.

Valerie’s contribution had been accepted for publication by the late John Gibbs, the previous
Editor, but could not be printed. We are pleased to include it.

We had a very interesting first Area Meeting Discussion Group last December looking at our
News & Views first edition from Dorrie and Eric which was enjoyed by those taking part.

Discussion, on different topics, is scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month from 7.30pm-

         8.30pm on open zoom.
Bob and Bonnie will be your hosts for this important time to share together.

The next date for the Discussion Group, after this publication of CA News and Views, will be
         Tuesday, 19th April
