THE NEW NORTON
A TRAILBLAZING RENOVATION BRINGS OUR FAVORITE EVENT DESTINATION TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL
Club Braman members are not just car a cionados. Oftentimes, they are also patrons and devotees of the arts. Appro- priately, Braman has held many memo- rable events at The Norton Museum of Art, but something very exciting is on the horizon.
For decades, the Norton has preserved, actively collected, exhibited and inter- preted art. Furthermore, it educates
the public through special exhibitions, publications, and programs —seeking to improve the quality of life for all through engagement with the visual arts.
In 2009, nearly 75 years after its found- ing, The Norton embarked on an ambi- tious plan for the Museum’s future—an extraordinary expansion designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster. The project, the most signi cant renovation in the Museum’s history, will secure the Norton’s legacy
as a cultural beacon— a place where audiences explore and enjoy outstanding art for generations to come.
12,000 square feet of new galleries — a 35% increase in exhibition space‐‐ will allow the Norton to display more of the permanent collection and facilitate an increase in curated exhibitions, advanc- ing the Museum’s mission. The New Norton will be a vessel worthy of the outstanding art it holds. The addition of six major galleries will include the Muse- um’s rst permanent gallery for photog- raphy, expanded galleries for Chinese
art and special exhibitions, a dedicated education center with a student gallery, two new classrooms for adults, families, and school children, the addition of a 210‐seat auditorium with state of‐the‐art audio‐visual capability and new public spaces which include a versatile restau- rant, landscaped gardens, special event spaces and a museum store.
Centrally located, the 9,000‐square‐foot Pamela and Robert B. Goergen Garden will showcase large‐scale outdoor works of art, and create new programming opportunities including artist workshops, discussions, movie nights, and picnics. Adjacent to the sculpture garden, The Leonard and Evelyn Lauder Restaurant will o er an enhanced culinary expe- rience for Museum guests, including al‐fresco dining with panoramic views of the gardens from the John and Marjorie
McGraw Terrace.
These highly interactive spaces for creat- ing and experiencing art will distinguish the Norton as an unparalleled resource for the community. Almost half of the Norton’s audience — more than 50,000 visitors (including Club Braman mem- bers!) — participate in the Museum’s educational programming. From lectures and studio art classes, to lm‐screenings and performances during Art After Dark, the Norton serves a broad cross section of the community with hundreds of diverse programs o ered throughout the year.
So if you’ve enjoyed our past events at
The Norton, just imagine how the expe- rience will be elevated and enhanced at The New Norton! 39
