In addition to his novels, he wrote encyclopedic essays such as
The Profile of History (1919) or The Open Conspiracy (1922) and,
although he never gave up on his attempt to create a more just
and caring world, his latest writings, The Fate of homo sapiens
(1939) and The mind on the edge of the abyss (1945) are marked
by a pessimism resulting from contemplating a humanity that, by
ambition and hatred, destroys itself.
THE FIRST WAR TABLE GAME
Little Wars is one of the first (if not the first) miniature war board
game rules and was developed by HG Wells (a curious milestone
for a pacifist).
HG Wells himself defined this new game this way: ‘Little wars: a
game for children between twelve and one hundred and fifty
years old and for those especially intelligent girls who like books
and boy games‘. It should be remembered that it was 1913.
The idea of creating this game was not only from HG Wells, it
came after a dinner with his friend the also writer Jerome Klapka
Jerome who started playing with a small cannon and a lead
soldier, both concluded that with a few rules they could create a
game ... And so did HG Wells.
