Sport
Coláiste Nua inherits a proud tradition of sporting participation and success in a variety of sports.
Many varied sporting disciplines are enjoyed and students are offered the opportunity to participate in
a wide variety. Hurling and Camogie are of course very much part of our culture, where our school
teams have been hugely successful at local and interprovincial level, indeed, many of our past students
have gone on to play for their county. Other Sports our boys and girls are also involved in are Gaelic
Football, Basketball, Handball, Soccer, Badminton, Athletics, Golf and Rowing, to name but a few.
Within the spacious grounds of circa 30
acres, the College provides a unique
atmosphere for students to prosper with
top class facilities for sporting and
recreational activities. Outdoor Sports
facilities include five playing pitches for
football, hurling and soccer, two tennis
courts, two handball alleys, three basket-
ball courts, an All-Ireland standard cross-
country course and athletics facilities.
A modern spacious Gymnasium containing
basketball courts, indoor football arena,
two racquetball courts and a well equipped
fitness suite is also available with a
specialised Weights room.
Students also represent the school in a variety of events that they pursue outside of school to include
Golf, Judo and Rowing. We are interested in supporting all students, whatever their forte and look
forward to claiming success in all/any events.
For the not so athletic, the games club continues each lunchtime,
with many students participating in chess, draughts, connect 4,
card games etc.
Our Library is well stocked and open to students during lunchtime.
This can be a lovely quiet place to read, relax or take part in card
making for those special times of the year.
