Kat Riggins—Revival—House Of Berry Productions
Katriva Riggins was born in 1980, in Miami where she
grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and
their love of a wide range of musical genres including
gospel, soul, country, rock, and more but, her inner soul
was drawn to artists who possessed and exuded a
particular allure such as; Koko Taylor, Tina Turner, Nina
Simone, Sam Cooke, and Janis Joplin.
Joining Kat; lead vocals, on this: her sixth album is Tim
Mulberry; bass, drums, horns and keyboards, Erik Guess; guitar, Shaelyn Mulberry
and Mark Barner; backing vocals.
The ten numbers here are by Kat and Tim.
The opener, ‘Lucky’, is a lively piano and horns led rocking,-roller and the enjoyably
enthusiastic vocal comparisons with Tina Turner, are certainly evident here.
Next up, is the tight, funk-woven ‘Revived’, with a low intense guitar, organ and horn
driven groove that sets your toes, seriously tapping.
A somewhat looser groover, ‘Southern Soul’, vigorously extols the hip-swinging
benefits of having Southern in your Soul.
The enticing, dragging and trawling insistent bass on ‘New Level’ sets the mood on
this enjoyable tramping tale of personal independence. On the same theme is ‘Set Me
Free’, which seems to possess, a slinky nineteen eighties late night feel.
‘Mojo Thief’, is a splendid upbeat organ and guitar led floor duster, reflecting on the
dubious morals of Mojo Theft.
The grooving, guitar led power ballad ‘Chasing Time’ reflects upon the procrastinating
what ifs and maybes of life.
On the rocking blues of ‘Mighty’, Kat roars, that she is most definitely, one of those
with the power to storm.
The grooving, rocking ‘Old Time Ways’, harks back to, yes, the good old days when....
‘Healer’, is a thoughtful, delta infused, acoustic blues, focusing on the positives of life
and friendship to all.
