As they say, ‘there are no duds here, it’s all good stuff!’ The numbers on this compilation are well
worth the download and of course all monies go to a good cause.

Blues Society of Central Pennsylvania—Backyard Blues—Blue
Heart Records
The BSCP, have held their weekly blues jam sessions every
Thursday night for more than twenty years now, unfortunately
the present pandemic has forced the cancellation of their beloved
weekly get together, so as a consequence of this physical
restriction the blues society and its members have fully embraced
the use of zoom to continue their ‘blues jam’ performances on
their Facebook group page. Sallie Bengtson, partner at Blue Heart
Records, states she is proud to be working with the label’s
“hometown” blues society for this release. A central figure within
the society and executive producer of this album is one Gary “Rocky” Rothrock. The album was
produced, recorded and mastered by Bobby Gentilo, the album was recorded at the Right Coast
Recording studios, Columbia, Pennsylvania.
This 16 track compilation features nine artists/bands with Blues On The Loose opening the
proceedings with ‘A Bad Influence', Lewy Dean provides sharp lead vocals and blasting harmonica
with bounding percussion and fiercely rolling guitar to the fore. Buzzard Luck, merges a country
wailing harmonica with an infectious rock infused guitar and slide on the foot-tapper ‘True Force
Of Nature’. Rose Hudson with Barrelhouse create a wonderfully enticing funk groove on ‘Outside
Cat', the deep bass and percussion is complimented by Rose’s raunchily enticing vocals while a
punching harmonica demands attention. Rocky & the House Band deliver a splendidly rolling slow
blues with ‘Since We’ve Been Apart', the crisp, sparkling piano and rich, stark sparse guitar
underpin Rocky’s mellow lonesome vocal. The Mighty Klucks deliver a rather fine walkin’ blues in
the form of ‘More Whiskey', the pounding percussion and urging B3 support a driving, forceful
guitar. The bright and breezy picking guitar of ‘Walkin Round Blues', from Roger Hammer is
underpinned by a sparkling and infectious percussion. Ben Brandt Trio, creates on ‘Nameless', a
rather attractive understated prowling atmosphere on the guitar led slow moving, rocking blues.
Bob Wineland & the House Band comment on the problems in the world today with ‘Trouble All
Over The world', their concerns are delivered as a splendid mellow mixture of late sixties bubbling
soul and blues. The eight minute epic ‘Catfish Blues/It’s My music', from the Nate Myers Trio fuses
stomping roots blues with the sometimes animatedly spoken word and this number is delightfully
dominated by a splendid breathlessly wheezy harmonica from Nate himself who also provides the
vocal.
