designer, told them what I wanted and then five weeks later they’d sent me what they’d done, I’d
think that’s really impressive, but I wouldn’t have had the same feeling of accomplishment.
BiTS: It sounds to me as though there’s a good deal of therapy in this as well.
HDC: It’s all cathartic, isn’t it? Music
itself is cathartic, I feel, whether it’s
digging deep into emotions and memories
or if it’s just letting loose and having fun
or whatever, that’s to me what playing
and listening to music is all about. The
good and the bad, everything and it’s the
reason I do it. I love writing music. I love
playing guitar. I literally get up in the
morning and that’s what I do and I’m very,
very grateful to be able to do that and I
don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t. But
thankfully, touch wood, that will never
happen, but it is, it’s all cathartic,
everything about it and from the response
I get from certain things, from people that
send emails and whatnot, they maybe
don’t get what a song is actually about, but
they relate to it in their own way. A lot of
musicians get feedback from people saying
that song really touched me, but it’s one of the best feelings when somebody reaches out and says
this song got me through a dark time and it makes it all worthwhile, definitely.
BiTS: Clatch, I won’t take any more of your time. That’s absolutely wonderful. It seems an
appropriate place to stop. Thank you so much for speaking to me. We must not leave it as long the
next time. It’s far too long.
HDC: [Chuckling] Time flies, doesn’t it. It really does. I couldn’t believe it when you said it was
2017, the last time. It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago.
BiTS: No, it doesn’t. I agree with you. Well, thanks very much indeed. Okay, you look after
yourself. Have a good day.
HDC: Same to you, Ian. Same to you.
BiTS: Bye.
HDC: Bye.
