CLM: Well, Morgan's place because he actually was there on the night and there was a rumour
he would be there, but it wasn't guaranteed because he kind of shows up whenever, you know,
and he did. He put his head round my dressing room door [laughing] backstage and was like,
Hey, Cherry. So that was a real pinch-me moment. But just getting to do what I love in beautiful
venues. Theatres are lovely to perform in. I love singing in theatres, but then you've got to do
the dives as well to appreciate it all [laughing]. I’ve done a few toilets up and down the country
over the years, that's for sure.
BiTS: How many albums were you involved in making in the last part of your career? Let's call
it that.
CLM: Oh, I think it's been seven
releases.
BiTS: Okay.
CLM: Yes, and before that, I was
always recording original
material, but I never actually put
anything out until I started
working with Max, and that was
2007 when we put out the first
album, and that was “Little Girl
Blue”.
BiTS: When you're listening to
music these days, who do you
listen to? Who are the people
that you are influenced by, let's
say?
Mariola Karpowicz
CLM: Today, I find it really hard
today to listen to – I couldn't
even tell you what was in the top ten, you know [laughs]. I do like listening to, you know, what
you like over and over again. I do need to check out new music, if I am honest. I feel like I've not
done that for a while, but I love a lot of the new country stuff because I love the lyrics and country
songs, the real storytelling. There's a songwriter called Nicole Galyon, and I really like her stuff,
and Hailey Whitters is a new country artist. I say new, they've all been around for years, haven't
they? It's like overnight success takes ten years, isn't it [chuckles]?
BiTS: Yes, let me put it another way. When you go out in your car or wherever, what's the music
that you play through your loudspeakers?
CLM: I would say depending on my mood and if I've not got the little one with me and I can blast
it out really loud [laughing], I love, oh, what's Keifer Sutherland's band called? He's sort of bluesy
rock. I love listening to the early Tina stuff. Ike and Tina.
BiTS: When we first started talking about doing this interview, you hinted at me that you were
going to be doing some work with “a well-known” person, I think. Are you able to tell me more
about that?
CLM: Yes. So I've done it with them before a few years back. We've been friends for a long time
now, maybe ten years or so – it’s Krissy Matthews. His new album is out later this year, I believe,
and he asked me to guest on a couple of songs on the album, so I've been doing that. So really
