thinking one or two of them might come through, but every time the phone would ring it was
somebody else cancelling. So hopefully, we have moved beyond that and can get back to it a little
bit.
BiTS: Well, I'm glad it's all over
now, and let's talk about the new
record, which is clearly very
important to you, I would think.
BW: Well, I hope so. I mean,
we're hoping it'll make a mark.
We did it 13 years ago. Jim Suhler
and Vince Converse and I, and
Arnie Goodman, who had Blue
Storm music, he's the one that
recorded us first in Dover, New
Jersey, at the Showplace Studios,
with Ben Elliott on the board and
it was really a good set-up to
record. Good guys and good gear
and all that kind of stuff, so it
went well, and then it promptly
got shelved for like 13 years, and
we’d get an e-mail or call once in
a while saying, Well, the album
may be coming out. Well, it's not
going to come out now or next
September, and it went on for 13
years like that. So in the meantime, I have made my “Six String Svengali” CD that I did. The last
one of my own that I did quite a while back and when I had heard that the record may not be
coming out at all, I just went ahead and took the songs that I had written for the “Texas Scratch”
project and used them on my album. And now, of course, they're coming out, but they're not the
same. I mean, they're not played by the same guys. It's like another take on it. Plus, we did a song
by John Nitzinger from Fort Worth here. We all love Nitzinger. We grew up playing his music.
BiTS: What is different is that even though the songs may be the same, the interpretation of
them and the performance of them is very different.
BW: Yeah, a little bit, I'd say.
BiTS: Why was there such a delay, Buddy? Have you got any idea?
BW: You know, I really couldn't give you an honest answer. We got paid up front, the guys playing
and we spent a week, maybe a week and a half, recording it up in New Jersey and then after that,
the talk was that it was going to come out on so and so label and then the next we here, well it
didn't go through, so we're going to wait a while. It just kept on until I just put it on the back
burner in my brain and then the other day, I was surprised to see that it was coming out on
Quarto Valley, and I think it may have a life.
BiTS: So how did you get the news that it was going to be actually published?
