Elizabeth Hangan—Notorious Woman—PK Entertainment
(Single)
This digital release is a rather nice introduction to a new name to
me. Elizabeth Hangan is a singer, though she is equally well-
known on the Los Angeles blues scene as a bass player. Kelly
Zirbes and Perry Robertson of Kelly’s Lot were impressed with
her song and helped her record it, with Perry playing guitar and
producing, plus other musicians on piano, bass and drums.
Elizabeth has worked with Bernie Pearl, Mickey Champion and
Deacon Jones, so is obviously no slouch. This individual and strongly grooving blues, with its soul
touches, confirms that opinion. I’d say she is a name to watch for.

Miss Lady Blues—Moe Betta Blues—Miss Lady Blues
Miss Lady Blues, real name Tikesha McMullen Boyd, who goes by
Kesha, is a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She now lives in
Atlanta, Georgia. She started her music career in 2013. Her love
of music, engendered by the ambience of her home as a kid,
evolved into her pursuit of a career as a recording artist. Miss
Lady Blues independently released her first album “Pieces of My
Soul” in 2017. This is her second.
First thing to say is that Kesha has a stunningly good voice. In the
mould of soul blues she brings a rich, sultry sound to each one of
eight tracks here. ‘Back It Up With That Lip’ is an excellent
walking pace blues with a great piano driven arrangement and harmony backup singers. ‘She Ain't
Me’ is a mid-paced piece with added funk while ‘Being In Love’ is a poppy piece reminding me of a
number of 80s vocal groups. There is not a duff track here, but don’t expect roots blues, this is
excellent modern music delivered with skill and panache.

This album was first release about 12 months ago but only in the
USA. The ‘new’ version is ‘special’ following the addition of two
acoustic only tracks.
The band is from Anacosti a suburb of south-eastern Washington
DC and is fronted by Jenny Langer, Blues Hall of Fame member,
International Blues Challenge award winner, Wammie-winning
artist and pinup model. The band are friends who met at Boston's
Berklee College of Music. "They teamed up to craft their own
formula of music that speaks to the soul and defies the labels of
traditional musical confines." The formula they came up with in 2009, is their own version of
