THE BiTS INTERVIEW: SUE FOLEY
Sue Foley has just been announced as the winner of the Koko Taylor Award
(Traditional Blues Female Artist) for 2024, a well deserved acolade. Although
usually associated with powerful vocals and her affinity to and skill with her
paisley Telecaster “Pinky”, she recently turned her hand to acoustic blues
with the production of “One Guitar Woman” (STONY PLAIN).
Ian McKenzie spoke to her on the ‘phone at her home in Austin, Texas ,
SF: Hello.
BiTS: Hello, Sue. It's Ian.
SF: Hello, Ian. How are you?
BiTS: I'm very well indeed.
Thank you for agreeing to
speak to me.
SF: My pleasure.
BiTS: I want to talk to
you about your fabulous
new acoustic record. But
first of all, I want to ask you,
did you get to see the eclipse
yesterday?
SF: I did see the eclipse. It was
fabulous, yes.
BiTS: What was it like? It’s Austin
you're in, isn't it?
SF: Yeah, I mean, Austin, it was great.
It was fairly overcast.
BiTS: Oh, that's a shame.
SF: We didn't have a clear sky, but right
at the moment of full eclipse, the cloud sort
of cleared away and we were able to see it.
But it was just really a few seconds
[laughing]. Not even a minute, but it was
great.
BiTS: Let's talk about the record. First of
all, the title, “One Guitar Woman”. What
do you mean by that? Is it just because it's
done with one guitar, or what was your
thinking when you selected the title?
