MH: He is indeed, yes [laughs]. And Jason’s somebody again, I mean all these guys on the show
I've known for years, except for maybe Andrew because Andrew's a younger guy. But yeah, I
mean, Jason I’ve known pretty much since he was a teenager. I met him, I think, outside of a club
in Boise, Idaho, when he was about 17, and he walked up and started playing ‘Juke’ and asked
me if I could show him how to play it
[laughing].
BiTS: Mark, I've been reading your book,
which I find absolutely fascinating. It's
terrific.
MH: Thank you.
BiTS: Are you planning to add to it because
it’s, I think, nearly close to 15 years or so
since you did it.
MH: Yeah, it's 14 years since I finished it. I
mean, I certainly have the ability to write
another one. You know, my goal is if I'm
going to do another one, probably what I
would do if I'm going to do a second book
would be to kind of fictionalise the entire –
you ever read a book by Artie Shaw that he
wrote?
BiTS: Yes, I do remember that.
MH: Do you know the book he wrote?
BiTS: I don't know the title of it, but I have
come across it.
MH: Yeah, well, if you read that book, what
he did is he wrote a story of basically his
career, but he kind of fictionalised
everybody's name, and then he kind of
created himself into a character in the book.
I thought it was fascinating the way he went about doing it because he basically just wrote it
almost as a novel, and it's really a great book. If you ever get a chance – let me see if I can find it
for you real quick here, one sec. Artie Shaw book, novel because it's really a great read. It's called,
‘I Love You, I Hate You, Drop Dead!’ [laughing].
BiTS: [Laughing] That sounds very much like Artie Shaw.
MH: Yeah, oh, it’s called ‘The Trouble with Cinderella’.
BiTS: Okay, that's fine. I'll have a look for it and see if I can get it to read. Tell me something
about the writing of that book of yours. How long did it take you in total?
MH: I want to say about three years, I think. Yeah, about three years.
BiTS: Did you find it easy?
MH: You know, the funny thing is, if you read the first chapter, the first chapter really was a blog
that I wrote on the tour, and I sent the blog to my friend that published the book. I just sent it as
