an entertainer at any you know of all types and she wrote a couple of novelty songs or songs that would have been
hits on the radio in the 20s, not in the blues realm, but just more in the pop realm of the day.
And one of them that she wrote that just doesn't sound like a blues at all because it's not, is a song called ‘Dreaming
of You’. And it's just this light, airy little love song with the sweetest little melody. And everybody that hears it says,
oh, that's so sweet. You know, it just makes you feel happy.
You uh show a different side of Victoria Spivey's work and another one she wrote that's a stone cold blues called
‘Don't Love No Married Man’, another example of something she wrote about 100 years ago, but as any gal will tell
you, it's the same old story whatever century we're in. And another one that I really like, well, there's ‘One Hour
Mama’, of course, the title track that has all these suggestive lyrics and it's really fun. And another favourite cut of
mine is ‘Downhill Pool’.
