Born Reece Francis Clifford III in 1942, professionally known as Buzz Clifford, he
signed with Bow Records at the age of fifteen, but
didn’t really achieve any success with the releases.
Later, signed to Columbia he had a hit with ‘Baby
Sittin’ Boogie’ in 1960, the song with which he is
probably best known. As good as that record is,
there’s much more to Mr. Clifford than that.
I found his “Baby Sittin’ with…” album on Bow Re-
cords (8420) for ten pounds, although I’d owned
the 45 for a number of years, this was the first
time I was able to hear more from Buzz Clif-
ford—from pop to rock-a-billy to doo-wop.
Check out :
‘I’ll Never Forget’, ‘Moving Day’ or ‘True
Love, True Love’.
To say this came as a very pleasant surprise
would be an understatement, the album was
excellent. How come we’d not heard more
from him after ‘Baby Sittin’ Boogie’?
Such a shame, there have been many less talented
artists finding themselves at the top of the record charts.
Buzz Clifford continued performing with his band, which included
his two sons, until his death at the age of 76 in 2018.
There are a couple of cds available, in my opinion the best is…
