Alexis P Suter Band—Just Stay High—NOLA Blue
The Alexis P Suter band come from a background
of performing at the renowned Midnight Rambles
organised at Levon Helm’s in Woodstock, NY. The
group has been making music for 20 years.
This new album saw its birth during the lockdowns
brought about by the COVID virus and the band has
taken the intervening time to mould and sharpen
the music into this impressive format.
Alexis and her band are not well known in the UK
despite a nomination for the 'Koko Taylor Award' at the 33rd Blues Music Awards
in 2015 and appearnces at festivals but she should be better known.
Her powerful but controlled voice is capable of vocal magic and is delivered in tones
from a whisper to a scream. She is as able to deliver stunning perfomances in pop
songs, gospel songs and just funky stuff. Her band are exemplary musicians and the
over all effect is breath taking.

Vince Lee & Sophie Lord—Out in The Sticks Vol
2—Bandcamp Only
Vince Lee is an experienced and influential
musician in and around Plymouth, Devon in
England. Sophie Lord was born and bred in that
south coast city but left for London and became a
skilled bass player, including learning to play the
double-bass (standup) and the bass ukelele.
Returning to the city she paired up with Vince and
they formed a blues duo.
Together the pair have developed a repertoire of
blues, ballads and early rock and roll songs. Vince is a convincing blues troubador
with some outstanding skills. Using various guitars including resonators, he
fingerpicks complex arrangements and sings in a voice which reminds me of Sam
Chatmon at his peak.
For this album like volume one, the pair went out into the rural countryside around
their home base and recorded sixteen vintage blues including ‘St Louis Blues’, ‘Judge
Harsh Blues’, ‘Jockey Full of Burbon’ (not quite so vintage that one), ‘You Can’t Loose
What You Ain’t Got’ and ‘Going to Brownsville’ Fabuloso!! Get it now!
