SOP Title: Onboarding (New Employees and New Assignments)
team member, preceptors, and periodic progress update meetings with the team leads and RA director to take in feedback and adapt onboarding plan as determined necessary. The team leads arrange PI introductory meetings within 1-2 weeks upon hire.
5.3.2 In fulfilment of the training plan, the new team member fulfils credentialing, completes prerequisite CBT Cornerstone and research credentialing trainings within the “Just the Basics” phase of onboarding, they gain access to their study assignments to begin reviewing their protocol in preparation of PI meetings, and are oriented to their clinic and the key designated locations of the campus to build their understanding of the environment.
5.3.3 As the new team member moves through the referenced onboarding plan and the plan is adapted to their feedback and progress on milestone completion, the trainings and education are completed first; the relevant competencies are demonstrated through observation or active demonstration follow education curriculum completion; the competencies are simulated and subsequently given on the job experience opportunity with a preceptor, educator or team lead; and finally, upon demonstration of meeting the competency skill(s), the new team member is checked off in Lawson in real time (follow Learn Lawson for standard guidance of acknowledging and validating competencies).
5.3.3.1 Departmental guidance and supporting documentation using the department standard competency documentation folders is found at: T:\CCS_RESEARCH\2021 Onboarding\CRA & CRC Competency Folder 2020.
5.3.3.2 The team member should document in the competency spreadsheet the date and activity they completed in fulfil or partial fulfil of the competency skill(s).
5.3.3.3 The team member should also provide supporting documentation in the corresponding competency skill folders for said activity, before completing the acknowledgement and validation process for competency check-off in Lawson. The date of acknowledge in Lawson should be the same date as that documented in the competency spreadsheet and date they actually demonstrated the skill independently.
5.3.3.4 The process of 5.3.3.3 is consistently applied through all competencies in the CRA/C competency checklist and fulfilment of the Onboarding Plan. Communication of progress and completion of milestones is consistent throughout the process and opportunity for feedback is encouraged from the team member.
5.3.3.5 Ongoing competencies will be developed among the RA director, research educator, team leads, and potentially preceptors upon assessment
