President, Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter
Greetings:
The Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorpo-
rated is extremely proud to observe a significant time in our chapter history –
th
our 75 Anniversary! April 4, 2022, marks the chartering of Rocky Mount
Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority as an organization established
to provide public service to the citizens of Edgecombe and Nash counties. The
theme “Anchored in Service: Preparing RMAC for the Next 75 Years” empha-
sizes our commitment and dedication to public service, sister-
hood, scholarship and social action.
I am delighted to extend greetings on behalf of the 125 members currently listed on the chapter roster. We
are honored to have you as our guests to witness this tribute and observance of such a momentous
occasion.
Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter was originally chartered as Gamma Kappa Sigma. Reflecting on
the chapter history, we pay homage to the charter members. The 21 charter members of Rocky Mount
Alumnae Chapter left a legacy of service, dedication, and commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. They
were outstanding women who had the vision and desire to provide collective community service to the citi-
zens in Rocky Mount, Tarboro, Nashville and surrounding areas. Throughout the past seven and a half dec-
ades, Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter has provided effective and impactful programs directly aligned with
our Sorority’s National Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Develop-
ment, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and
Involvement. Signature programs include the Jabberwock Scholarship Program, Betty Shabazz Delta Acade-
my, Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully), Scholarship Recognition Program, and an
Annual Read-In.
Recognizing the significance educational opportunities bring to communities, the chapter endowed the
Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship at Edgecombe Community College in
January 2020. Additionally, we have continued to provide programming in the areas of social action
including virtual forums focused on voting, knowing your rights, and a youth workshop titled, “What to
Do When Stopped by the Police.”
To the citizens of Edgecombe and Nash counties, our community partners, and friends - we thank you for
your continued support. Our programming and community service could not have happened without your
giving and participation. We are grateful for all your support.
Here’s to another 75 fantastic years of stellar scholarship, sisterhood, service, and social action!
