2019 KATARINA PINOT NOIR
We honor Katarina Sattui with the special
bottling of our Russian River Pinot Noir. As
newlyweds, Katarina and Vittorio immigrated
to California in 1882 in search of a better life.
They arrived virtually penniless, with little
education, and without the ability to speak
a word of English. They worked extremely
hard and eventually saved enough money to
start their own boarding house for the dock
workers. Katarina cooked all the food for the
men and Vittorio worked at a bakery at night
and made wine during the day.
Katarina was a strong and determined
woman. She raised 6 children and together
they built a very successful wine business that
ultimately expanded to the Pacific Northwest.
This wine shows the same determination and
focus that defined Katarina’s life. The pedigree
of the Russian River fruit shines through with
wild berry and raspberry aromas mingled with
dark cherry, cinnamon, and cedar spice in
the nose. These same flavors continue on the
palate, reveling layer after layer of rich fruit.
I can’t say enough about this wine. It drinks
like a $50+ bottle of Pinot yet carries a much
lower price tag. I recommend stocking up on
this wine, as only 300 cases were produced; it
will sell out fast.
