THE JOURNEY OF A TINY, TIMID TODDLER TO A SHINY STAR
In a country like India that worships cricket as a religion and considers its players as Gods, we at
Vivek Vidyalaya, Goregaon West, and Mumbai have this young
talented girl named Greta Anil whose religion is TENNIS. She is a
th
9 grader who loves to be a great Tennis player. She is the winner
of the Maharashtra State Level TENNIS Tournament 2019 (under
14 category).
Greta’s early childhood was exactly as any other child. but
she used to visit a tennis court beside her home with her father very
often. This kindled in a a sort of interest in Tennis. Her initial years,
starting at the age of seven were quite challenging and tough. She
started playing in the under 10 category, becoming the state
runner up in the year 2016. The winning streak continued and she
is the under 14 champion now.
At the age of 7 she joined Prabodhan Krida Kendra in
Goregaon and later shifted to Goregaon Sports Club. Her coach
advised her to take individual training as he found her extra
ordinarily talented and she joined The Juhu Millenium Club. She
has been playing here for the last 3 years. As a 7 year old she
struggled, slowly and steadily she picked up momentum and
became ambitious and competitive. She understands what it
means to be a winner as well as a loser. She takes both gracefully in her strides.
Winning of course boosts her confidence and a loss for her is nothing but a
kind of encouragement that demands her to put in more efforts and motivates
her to win the next game.
Greta’s day starts at 7 am. She takes training at Juhu from 3 pm to 8
pm. She does her homework and other school work after this and her hectic
day’s schedule ends at 11pm. Years of training had made her very disciplined
and punctual. Though she is timid and shy and considers herself as an introvert
she rules the court. She plans to take training in INDIA and then abroad. Her
dream is to represent India in the International Level and win medals for her
mother land. She admits that she misses out her family time and leisure outings
but has no regrets. She hopes and aspires to be like her idol, Serena Williams.
Kuddos to the India’s future Serena Williams.!
