            Benefits of Reading

As an intellectual object, a publication is prototypically a composition of these great length that it
takes a substantial investment of time to write and a still significant, though not so comprehensive,
investment of time to browse. In the restricted sense, a publication is a self explanatory section or
portion of a longer composition, a usage that reflects the simple fact that, in antiquity, long works
had to be written on several scrolls, and each scroll needed to be identified from the book it
contained. So, for instance, each part of Aristotles Physics is called a book. From the unrestricted
sense, a book is the compositional whole of which these segments, whether known as chapters or
            books or components, are components.

The academic material in a physical publication does not need to be a composition, nor be called a
novel. Books can consist just of drawings, engravings, or photographs, or such matters as
crossword puzzles or cut-out dolls. In a physical book, the pages can be left blank or can feature
an abstract set of outlines as service for continuing entrances, e.g., an account book, an
appointment book, an autograph book, a notebook, a diary, or a sketchbook. Some bodily
publications are created with pages thick and sturdy enough to support other physical items, like a
record or photograph album. Books could be distributed in digital form as e-books and other
            formats.

Although in normal academic parlance a monograph is understood to be a specialist academic
work, rather than a reference work on a single scholarly topic, in library and information science
monograph describes more broadly every non-serial publication complete in 1 volume (publication
) or a finite number of volumes (even a novel like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), in
contrast to sequential books like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. Books can also be sold
elsewhere. Books may also be borrowed from libraries. Google has estimated that as of 2010,
roughly 130,000,000 distinct titles were published. In some wealthier nations, the sale of published
books has decreased because of the increased use of e-books.

In the 2000s, due to the rise in availability of cheap handheld computing devices, the chance to
share texts via electronic means became an attractive alternative for media publishers. Thus,
the"e-book" was created. The term e-book is a contraction of"electronic book"; it pertains to a
book-length book in digital form. An e-book is usually made accessible through the world wide
web, but also on CD-ROM along with other forms. E-Books may be read either via a computing
device with an LED screen like a conventional computer, a smartphone or a tablet computer; or by
means of a mobile e-ink screen device called an e-book reader, such as the Sony Reader, Barnes
& Noble Nook, Kobo eReader, or the Amazon Kindle. E-book readers attempt to mimic the
experience of reading a print book by employing this technology, since the displays onto e-book
            readers are not as reflective.
