Abstract. Presented study aimed to apply the near infrared spectroscopy approach in
determining some related properties of soil mixed by bioochars. Spectra data of soil samples
were acquired using a self-developed NIRS instrument (PSD NIRS i16) in wavenumbers range
from 4000 to 10 000 cm-1 with optical gain 4x and co-added of 32 scans per acquisitions.
Multivariate analysis like principal component analysis (PCA) and principal component
regression (PCR) were employed to develop NIRS based models followed with leverage
validation. The results showed that mixed soil samples with biochar can be classified with stand-
alone soil samples on PCA projection with total explained variance from first two principal
components (PCs) is 96%. The PCR analysis can be also used to predict some related properties
with maximum correlation coefficient is 0/94 during calibrations. This may conclude that NIRS
approach can be applied to determine related properties of mixed soil biochar samples rapidly.
