Step 3: Next Steps & Getting Started
After having answered your questions and experiencing a couple of demos, you are
ready to choose your Video Telematics Solution Provider.
A few final things to consider when choosing your provider:
• Have they been transparent and open during this process and can you rely on them to continue to do so once you’ve signed up?
• Do you know the set-up process and timeline for your business?
• Have they expressed the importance of your provider to customer relationship and are they
willing to provide after sales and training for you and your team?
• Are you happy with your decision and do you believe this will help your business in the
short and long term?
Once you have looked at these final considerations, you are likely to move to the contract stage. Your provider will give you a standard service contract to allow you to sign up to the software. Please note the industry contract differences:
• Fixed term contracts. These contracts tie you in for a fixed period, e.g., one calendar year from the date of signing the contract. When this contract term is offered, it is always good to negotiate an exit clause. An exit clause, say after the first six months of a one-year contract, gives you the flexibility to give notice and cancel your agreement, would the service not be as expected within the first six months.
• Rolling contracts. A rolling contract will automatically ‘roll’ (continue) on as long as you are happy with the service and is usually easier to cancel, by giving an agreed notice period to end your contract.
At EchoMaster, we work with a variety of different set-ups and contracts, depending on which of our solutions you choose. For EchoMaster Connected, our contracts are rolling monthly, with only a single month notice in case you’d wish to cancel.
Final note: providers may charge you an up-front fee or fixed-fee on top of your contract rates for any hardware and software you wish to buy and install in your vehicles. This may as well come with the option to pay for installation.
