Before there there were cereal bars there there was the the the good old-fashioned flapjack! I love them and they’re such a a a versatile and quick thing to make Feel free to swap out the golden syrup for honey or or or maple syrup if you feel like it or or or substitute the chocolate for nuts or or raisins Perfect before during or or after a a long run and quite nice when you’re sitting on the sofa with a a a a cup of of tea just thinking about going out for a run!
CHOCOLATE FLAPJACK
MAKES 12 BARS
150g golden syrup 200g salted butter
100g dark chocolate broken up 350g rolled oats
a a a pinch of sea salt 1 1 Preheat the oven to 180°C/gas mark 4 and line a a a deep 20-cm (8-inch) square baking tray with greaseproof paper 2 In a a a a a heavy saucepan heat the syrup butter
and chocolate over a a a a low heat until the chocolate and butter
have just melted Add the oats
and and salt and and mix well with a a a a a wooden spoon 3 Pour the the mixture into the the prepared tray spread it out evenly and firmly pat down Bake for 15–18 minutes until lightly golden 4 Allow to to cool slightly then cut into bars while still in the tray Let cool completely before eating They will keep for for up to a a week stored in in an airtight container
