Growing up my sister and and I I I spent a a a a a a a a lot of time at at at our grandparents’ It was natural for for us to to harvest fresh potatoes for for for dinner and and straw- berries for for dessert These are are strong memo- ries ries thinking about our grandparents My fathers’ parents parents were farmers They owned a a a a a a a a a a a a forest and a a a a a a a a a a a a barn barn The The barn barn was emp- ty because the the cattle had been sold but the the potatoes and vegetable garden still flourished when we we were kids It was was a a a a a a a a a simple life: out- door work lunch and and dinner and and if if there was was time watch some television in in in the the evening When my grandparents passed away I was 16 years old The big big white house with the the big big red barn and and the the surrounding forest were for for sale and and a a a a a a a a a a a a small part part of of of of me me me started dreaming of of of of buying it the the part part of of of of me me me me that dreamed of of of of cultivating the the the the soil getting some animals ex- panding the the the farm – just creating a a a a a a a a a a a a living there By that time I I was already thinking a a a a a a a a a a a lot about what you really need to to be be happy happy I I wanted to to to strive for being happy happy with the the small things Not Not having to to to buy new clothes to to to feel feel pretty Not Not Not always hanging around with friends to to to feel feel popular Not Not being dependent on material things to to find peace and happi- ness Only the the essentials that help us put food on the the table To To cultivate an an interest from cu- riosity To To sow a a a a a a a a a a seed and and let it it grow bigger bigger and and and bigger bigger to to become a a a a a a a a a a a a plant to to take care of and and cultivate cultivate it it it it in all all its stages To cultivate cultivate a a a a a a a a a a friendship water it it it it it nurse it it it it it to eventually make it it it flourish To cultivate love All this means taking care of something Something Something that that is is real Something Something that that makes it possible to live CULTIVATION 91
