Colour is King
Colour is king where ink bottles are concerned. A bottle in aqua may be worth little but full colour, particularly vivid shades, the price jumps dramatically. Within ordinary shades, particularly individual hues will push that even higher. Perhaps surprisingly amber shades are the rarer but the elusive yellow even more so.

in 1863 as an ink bottle. These slots are usually assumed to have held pen nibs, but evidence suggests otherwise. Mordan made and

ink embossed DERBY / ALL BRITISH. The name was brand of ink sold by ‘Jascott’ (James Scott)
absolutely beautiful strong petrol blue colour. Design registered by Mordan (Sampson Mordan’s second son, 1817-1868) in 1879. 9.5/10. NR. £250-
who was, perhaps surprisingly, from London, not Derby. There
are several different moulds for his pyramid design but it is
the rare strong yellow colour making this bottle a quite
exceptional offering. Glass full of tiny seed bubbles.

A not uncommon bottle in aqua but this

rare shaped bottle is usually found embossed Antoine & Fils (a similar one was also used by Maurin). Eduard Beyer (1825-1907) took over the Lion
sold Stylograph pens filled with a pipette; this and free short, wood handled free dip pens or brushes, for glue, are pictured in catalogues. The neck circumference suggests an ink. Spectacular! Exc/ A1. 9.5/10. NR. £300- 400+
