Alton Brewery Co, Turk Street, Alton, Hampshire. Founded before 1841. ... Courage required the brewery for the production
of pale ale, previously brewed for them by Flower & Sons Ltd (1872-86) and by Fremlins Ltd (1886-1903). Brewing ceased here in September 1979 when the Courage (Worton Grange) brewery opened.

Worthington Brewery was founded by William Worthington in the Midlands town of Burton on Trent in 1761 and, from 1872, was the first in the world to systematically use a laboratory in the brewing process from. They merged with major Burton rivals Bass in 1927. Throughout the 1920s until the 1960s the Worthington brand, in bottled form, ranked
alongside Bass and Guinness as one of only three beers with nationwide distribution.
It is the second oldest continuously brewed British beer brand after
Whitbread.
