180. DERBYSHIRE SEALED & DATED 1711 ENGLISH ONION WINE BOTTLE. David Burton Vol 3, p1423. 6.7ins tall. Classic black glass, heavy, English onion wine, base kick up, ring pontil, pronounced string rim (various damages due to continuous use/ decorking = big wine drinkers, lol!), some body wear, full glass sheen. Very crisply struck body seal reads: WINGERWORTH/
1711, cockatrice pict. to centre. (Full history of the house can be found on: wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingerworth_Hall). DWB suggests
this may well be the exact bottle referred to in Ruggles Brise, as
in the Rees Price Collection. Ex David Walker Barker Collection - purchased Sothebys, London, 1986. An important offering given the provenance & Derbyshire connections. 8/10. NR. £3,000-4,000+
