605. ACCRINGTON LANCASHIRE SLAB SEALED GINGER BEER. 6.9ins tall, crude hand thrown stoneware ginger beer shape, blob (cork closure) lip. Extremely crisply & well struck large
front cut out slab (filling more than half the body, old edge chip, blob of extra clay fired on) with a deeply modelled acorn and leaves. Within the outer border impressed letters HENRY PARKER/
ACCRINGTON, TRADE MARK each side of the pictorial. Until this was acquired by New Zealands Warren Roberts (in New York of all places) only a fragment of this was recorded.
Colin Savage & Nick Chipchase posted the two adverts shown here on the UK Bottle Forum. Some usage and in manufacture flaws, but
overall very crudely made, and fired, and really
super characterful. Fabulous, very typical of the
Harris was known as - The Sausage King, died in 1912 aged 69. He built up a famed butchers business through hard work and
clever advertising (see accompanying images - not included in the sale), and was
one of the most famous Victorian London caterers. At one time he had 40 shops in
London, Southend, Brighton & Portsmouth, plus others, but as leases expired he
concentrated entirely on the wholesale sausage trade, supplying large firms & the
Army & Navy. Rear (small reglued flake) Wedgewood

   type, glaze colour, some rear firing imperfections. Still bears evidence of rust, from burial, this would definitely benefit from a careful clean. 8.8/10. NR.
