2.6ins tall. (Inks book C32.3,
p91/2). Wonderful smokey
bluey hue, with coloured
swirls. Roof tiles crudely
indicated, two point
topped windows with
quartered panes, either
side of a similarly toped
door. There are two
versions: one with a water
butt to right gable end
(as here) other without.
Both have a rear vertical
storage groove. 9/10. NR. £150-

plinth embossed N.A./ DEPOSE/ PARIS.
N.A. - stands for Antoine & Fils. Ground
lip - usual flaws. A rare bottle, super
crude. Guy Burch Reserve Collection.
No damages but some slight
irridescence. NR. 8.5/10. £120-

635. DOULTON BABY INK
BOTTLE. 3.5ins
tall. A most unusual
version of the companion
piece for the ‘Votes For
Women’ Doulton Lambeth
stoneware inkwell. A
design registered in
1907 (Reg. No. 537190)
and attributed to Leslie
Harradine, it is usually
entirely ceramic with only
a metal hinge this version
paired to a silver metal
reservoir that was obviously
original. Probably a special
order commissioned for a
more upmarket retailer and
extremely rare? NR.9/10.

636. MONKEY WITH MONAKLE
INKWELL BOTTLE. Blobby.
Anthropomorphic monkey head wearing
a smoking hat & gilded monocle. Olive
green glaze, the mouth serving as
the font. A genre of images featuring
monkeys in human guise appeared
first in the 1600s in the low countries.
Called singeries, from the French for
“monkey trick” - as in monkeying
about. Dates from the late 19th
century revival. Probably made in
Belgium or by a faience factory
in St Clements area of France.
Only about four are known
some naturalistically painted or
more monochrome as with this
example. Very rare. 10/10. NR.

Bags of character,
characterful touch
mark side. Narrow
hand formed mouth.
