694. SMALL SIZE SHAFT & GLOBE WINE BOTTLE. 5.8ins tall, black glass (slight hint of green when held up to a strong light). Stylistically of a shaft and globe form, blown in a ‘V’ dip mould, with elongated tapering neck & thin (undamaged) string rim. Ascibed as English c. 1660-65 period - very early. An extraordinary small size of exceptional rarity and importance,
discovered during groundworks to Kirkby Grange (between Flockton & Emley) in the late 1980’s (full story p12, BBR 163). Wonderful crude form, distinctive tilt and overall charactful body patination - stable, base kick up/ pontil. (8?/10) NR £2,000-3,000+
