As autumn slowly approaches, it can
feel like a relief to Superintendents,
their teams, and the turfgrass as the
cooler mornings and shorter days
bring a shift to the day-to-day grind
of the summer. Although fall can often
be hectic with less employees
working, performing aeration and
other cultural practices, as well as
preparing for the winter, it is always
one of my favourite times of the year.
I certainly enjoy the break from
the summer heat, but I also enjoy the
change of pace away from routine
maintenance into focusing more on
some of those less routine tasks
previously mentioned. Additionally, it
is also the time of year where I start
planning and budgeting for the
upcoming season. I have always felt it
is an important time to take stock of
what is working well and what you
would like to improve on in your
operation while things are still moving
along.
BUILDING ON INITIATIVES
The CGSA continues to make progress
on several exciting initiatives, driven
by its exceptional staff and supported
by a dedicated Board of Directors.
One area of growth is building on the
success of the Club Membership that
was first offered last year. It has been
very encouraging to have so many
clubs sign up for this option and offer
CGSA membership to many
individuals who might not have had
the opportunity before.
Seasonal
Transition:
Preparations
Underway
Another noteworthy initiative in
action is the announcement that the
Live Learning Center recordings from
previous conferences are now available,
free of charge, to all members. While
the goal is to maximize our in-person
conference attendance, realistically not
everyone can attend the events. The
option of watching a recording ensures
that the wider membership can benefit
from the outstanding conference lineup
put together by the Conference
Committee each year. If you haven’t
already, please share the information
with members of your team so that the
education the CGSA provides can
reach as many people as possible.
FALL FIELD DAY
This time of year also brings excitement
as preparations for the Fall Field Day
have begun and plans to attend are
unfolding. This year we will bring our
spectacular event to another first-class
location. We are fortunate to hold this
year’s event on October 7th, at the Club
Laval-sur-Lac with host Superintendent
Luc Ladouceur.
I am excited to squeeze in a few
great days of golf and networking
in Quebec this October and I hope
to see all of you there! Please visit
www.golfsupers.com for more inform-
ation and to register.
I wish you all the best for the
balance of the golf season and look
forward to seeing many of you in
person this fall. GM
