As I write this, I have just returned
from the 2025 Summer Shamble at
The Okanagan Club in Kelowna, British
Columbia. This marks CGSA’s second
year hosting the event, and it was
a tremendous success! A heartfelt
thank you to the entire team at The
Okanagan Club for their outstanding
hospitality. Superintendent Gary
Stadnek and his crew had the Quail
Course in phenomenal shape, and the
event was thoroughly enjoyed by all
attendees.
Looking ahead, we are setting our
sights on Club de golf Laval-sur-le-
Lac, where host Superintendent Luc
Ladouceur and his team will welcome
us for our Fall Field Day on October
7th. Registration has been strong since
opening in June. Visit www.golfsupers.
com for more information and to
register, if spots are still available! I
look forward to connecting with many
members there.
At the close of spring, CGSA held a
full round of committee meetings. I am
pleased to report that we welcomed
more than a dozen new committee
members. CGSA’s committees play a
vital role in reviewing our programs,
benefits, and activities, and in shaping
the association’s direction. Many
exciting new initiatives emerge from
these discussions. One of this year’s key
projects, proposed by the Environment
Committee, is the development of best
management practices for Canadian
golf courses. Stay tuned for more details
as this important initiative unfolds.
THE PURSUIT OF SUSTAINABLE GOLF
CGSA is also continuing our partnership
with the Sustainable Golf Initiative,
presented in Canada through a
collaboration between CGSA and
NGCOA Canada. The GEO-certified
program promotes environmentally
responsible golf course management.
While over 100 Canadian clubs
have taken the sustainability pledge,
fewer are actively participating in the
“On Course” program. We hope to
boost that number in the coming year
to help demonstrate that golf can be
not only an enjoyable sport and a driver
of local economies, but also a model for
sustainable land stewardship.
If you have not already, please
consider taking the pledge and beginning
your On Course journey. Together, we
can ensure that conversations around
golf course maintenance reflect a strong
commitment to environmental care.
As summer draws to a close, I hope
the season has been kind to you and
your team. May you find a moment to
pause, recharge, and reflect on all that
has been accomplished.
Respectfully,
Kathryn Wood, CMP
