2022 Season Ends on Another High Note!
NGCOA Canada Releases the Real Data on Rounds Played
The National Golf Course Owners Association Canada’s monthly Research Reports, presented by Club Car, provide crucial data at the course level, as well as to the industry at large. These end of year reports show that the historical increased popularity that golf experienced in the 2020 and 2021 seasons continued in 2022, albeit down somewhat from last year’s peaks.

YOY -6.5% -12.3% -7.5% -12.7% +1.9% -11.6% -12.4%
The 2022 Canadian golf season finished up with the national average rounds played remaining at extremely high levels; YOY totals were down 6.5% with decreases everywhere except Ontario, where the 2021 base included a period of COVID mandated spring shutdowns. Nationally, 2022 YTD rounds exceeded 5-year average levels by 11.4%, which represents an increment of 2600 rounds per course for the season. When comparing pre-pandemic rounds played to today, rounds have increased by 21.2% compared to 2019, which is considered tremendous growth in an industry that had been described as slightly declining or flat prior to the start of the COVID pandemic.

The national year-end 2022 revenues continued to rise another 3.9% nationally, in addition to the dramatic increase of 18.9% experienced last year! The likely contributors are increased ancillary product sales and improved average rates due to the maximization of tee sheets.

WEATHER
NGCOA Canada’s Weather Impact Report indicates that weather has also contributed to the continued success for golf. Tracked regionally, the 2022 season weather scores in all regions were considerably better than the 5-year average.
