At the first virtual Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show, delegates submitted ideas in advance for the Great Canadian Idea Share that showcased their best money-saving and revenue-generating ideas. The top 8 semi-finalists were chosen and presented live during the virtual event with delegates voting for the top 4 favourite ideas.
It was a competitive process, with many creative and impressive ideas stemming from a golf season unlike any other. The top 4 finalist ideas will be featured in Golf Business Canada magazine.
In typical 2020 fashion, we had our first ever co-winners who tied for first place, and are the proud recipients of the grand prize of an all expense paid golf trip to The Highland Links at Cape Breton, valued at $5,000 courtesy of Tee-On Golf Management Software and bragging rights for a whole year!

We created a ladies’ wellness-inspired day on the course. This event was for ladies of all golfing abilities to come and celebrate the start of the season with a full day of fun and connection. Featuring yoga, golf fashion show, golf clinic, nine-hole round and dining & cocktail hour, this mini-retreat was a big hit!
The day began with tea, coffee and smoothies with time to mingle and pick up a special swag bag (valued at $150). The group was welcomed by the course team followed by a morning session of yoga with golf-targeted stretching.
A wholesome, health-focused lunch was served during a full fashion show. Our special guest for the day, Lisa “Longball” Vlooswyk, 8-time Canadian Long Drive Champion, then hosted a golf clinic and Q&A. Lisa covered many important aspects of the game, including warm up, proper posture, grip, stance, ball position, swing sequence, and how to fix slices, hooks, and cold tops.
After the clinic, guests had the opportunity to warm up at the range prior to their round. Lisa was there to answer any questions about new tips learned at the clinic, along with Kananaskis Staff and PGA of Canada Golf Professionals Bob Paley (Head Professional), Mike Nutt, and Chris Cooke. We then put these newly learned tips and tricks to the test during a nine-hole shotgun on Mt Kidd.
Following the round, we regrouped in the Robert Trent Jones Pavilion to enjoy each other’s company and a few refreshing cocktails. Our day concluded with a sit-down dinner reception and an evening of stories with our wonderful host, Lisa.
These two sold out events were priced at $185 (+ GST) per person and we generated $19,000 in revenue in non-prime tee times. Most importantly, we achieved our objective of introducing a new group of women to golf and to the culture of our business, all while sharing with the participants how golf is so much more than hitting a little white ball.
The relationships created have inspired a new group of loyal supporters to Kananaskis and to the game of golf.
